Player Ratings from Cork game.
Packie Holden: 9/10. Once again Packie kept us in it with a succession of fine saves. Really coming into his own when it matters.Dave Breen: 8/10. Did trojan work at right full and wasn't afraid to go forward.
Pat Purcell: 7/10: Solid and controlling in central defence.
Kevin Doherty: 8/10. Won every challenge and header, a giant in the air.
Kenny Browne: 7/10. Unfortunate to be sent off, great run foward which led to the penalty.
Paul Crowley: 7/10. Ran all night, covered every acre and got stuck in. Put the penalty away with aplomb.
Stephen Grant: 7/20. Passed well, tracked back to help out in defence and won sone key tackles.
David Mulcahy: 9/10. Worked well all game, in defence and pushing forward. A captain's performance in every sense of the word. Great vision in setting up Vinny's goal.
Colm Heffernan: 8/10. Some great moves down the wing, also came back and defended when needed. Looked dangerous when we were in posession.
Kevin Waters: 7/10. Started alongside Vinny up front but was pushed back to left back after Kenny's sending off. Did well and aws constantly under pressure from Cork's forwards. A much improved general performance from Muddy.
Vinny Sullivan: 10/10 (MOM). Great goal. Was asked a lot of after the sending off as he would be on his own up against the meanest defence in the country but he never gave up. Took his goal brilliantly, could have had another as well but for a stunning save from Devine. Was suffering from cramp for the last 10 minutes but still gave it his all.
Subs:
Neil Andrews: 7/10. Came on and slotted well into defence.
John Lester 7/10. One some tackles in midfield and took pressure off Waterford defence for spells.
Rodney Jack: not on long enough. ^ TOP
Waterford United 2 Cork City 2
4/9/2005Tonight was a stunning advertisement for football in Waterford. For all the nay-sayers who questioned the actual need for a local senior soccer club tonight showed what we'd be missing.
All the ingredients were there:
A packed RSC.
A lively and passionate home support which out-sung and out-shouted the numerous away following.
The edge of a local derby.
Former faces returning for each club, Dolan for Cork and Fenn and Bruton for us.
What was at stake for both clubs, relegation and the title... Read More → ^ TOP
Waterford Players in Britain 2005/2006
28/29 AugustNewcastle 0 Man Utd 2: John O'Shea is drafted in at right-back to replace the injured Gary Neville. Collides with Newcastle's new signing Albert Luque in the box early on but appeals made for a penalty by the Spaniard are denied. Has a comfortable game, going on to put a sweet cross from his left foot which Van NIstelrooy heads over. With Neville out for a couple of months JOS could make this position his own.
Watford 0 Reading 0: Stephen Hunt is an unused substitute.
Dunfermline 0 Celtic 4: Noel Hunt comes on for the last 20 minutes of this game but is unable to make any impact.
Walsall 2 Swansea 5: Brian Murphy is an unused substitute.
