Waterford people feel let down by this country!

I hate being negative but I have to be honest. We feel let down by this country.

Waterford is Ireland's oldest city and until the 19th century we were second only to Dublin in terms of size and prosperity. However, Cork passed us out first. It was only this century, after we became the republic, that Limerick and then Galway took over.

So why do we feel let down: Read More → ^ TOP

Kilkenny, they happent a clue boy!

I was browsing the Internet and came across Kilkenny County Council’s response to Waterford’s proposed border extension and to be honest I was taken aback by what I read! You can get the executive summary of the response here: http://www.kilkennycoco.ie/publications/council_publications/default.aspx?id=1774

Their first argument is about the current size of Waterford city and it’s reach into Waterford county stating there is enough land there for development and that there is no need to expand into Kilkenny as a result, however this ignores the fact that a large proportion of Waterford’s city centre population lives North of the river (6000 or so I believe) and do not come under Waterford’s administration area, which means they have different, and sometimes inferior services (e.g. postal service, most people put via Waterford to get their post a day earlier), they cannot vote on city issues and they are not recorded under the census as being part of Waterford city.

Anudder year anudder headache!

Well... It's that time of year again... trying to shed the puddin' and cope with the depression that comes with returning to slavery... but it isn't all that bad as we have a lot to look forward to this year...

The starting of our second bridge and our bypass
The hurling and soccer seasons
Lovely sunny weather on the beaches around the Deise
And some of ye will have your SSIAs maturing...
My new years resolution is to feck the begrudgers and just be positive about the good things we have in Waterford. We have so much to be proud of. Some places have one or two things they can be proud of but the list is so long in Wateford you couldn't write them all down. UpTheDeise.com will try and capture the essence of some of these treasures on a weekly / bi-weekly basis to share with you, if you are willing to come along on the adventure. Maybe you might even take a person or show someone the pictures.

Remember the gallery is constantly being updated... the most recent photgraphs are of Tramore on Stephen's day... see

Here's a picture of a sunset over Netwown Head:

Also, the people on the message boards are waiting for you to have your voice heard. If you have ever felt like posting please try it out, you'd never know, once you start you may never stop and become the next Railway Square!!! It's anonymous and it's fun. See: http://www.upthedeise.com/waterfordmessageboard

Finally, I will leave you with a song the hurlers might sing about picking up Liam McCarthy this year... As sung by the Waterford players on the day of an all-ireland final!

"Liam Can I Hold You Tonight"

to de tune of "Baby can I Hold You Tonight"

Listen: http://www.upthedeise.org/upthedeise.com/waterford-mp3s/liam-can-i-hold-you-tonight.mp3

Warning - slightly rude!

Bollix,
It's all that we can say
Years gone by and still
Liam don't come easily
Ah bollix

Feck it
Is all that we can say
Years gone by and still
Goals don't come easily
A feck it!

But we can say Maybe
Maybe we can hold Liam tonight?
Maybe, if we sco-ored the right goal
oooh, at the right time
You'd be mine

We want you
is all that we can say
Years gone by and still
Can't bate Cork easily
But we'll win you

But we can say Maybe
Maybe we will hold Liam tonight?
Maybe, when we sco-ore the right goal
oooh, at the right time
You'll be mine

Up da Deise!!!

Wellboy!

P.s. feel free to forward this email... just mention upthedeise.com if you do... the more people on upthedeise.com's messageboard the better and more useful the service becomes for all of us!!!

WATERFORD The Forgotten County?

I think we are all fed up being overlooked as a county given all the merits of the place. I have put together a letter for the media and whoever will read it about what we can all do to help remedy the situation...
Please read on and let me know what you think.

Letter to Ster Century

Waterford and the South East are deprived as far as I am concerned when it comes to quality cinematic entertainment...

Therefore, I am going to send this letter to Ster Century and perhaps some other major cinema groups as we are the capital city of an area with almost 500,000 people and we have no high quality cinemas or at least nothing to match the standard of the cinemas in the Liffey Valley Centre in Dublin.

Read on for the letter...
