Comeraghs Rugged Hills

In memory by the mountain side
i strayed at close of day,
To view the glens and purple heights
alas not far away,
Where lonely masts on silvery seas
flows by the ancient mill,
Its torrents breaking into foam
o'er comeraghs rugged hills

'tis long years since i bid farewell
for it was my sad fate,
From a land opressed by cruel laws
i had to emigrate,
But in my waking thoughts by day
myeyes with tears would fill,
For scenes and haunts not far away
from comeraghs rugged hills

The village church floats by the mill
again i seem to view,
It stands as bare and beautiful
as when i said adieu,
The boys with whom i used to play
i see them still today,
Oh comrades now so far away
from comeraghs rugged hills

When in this foreign land today
i lay me down to rest,
The thoughts of my dear native place
still thump within my breast,
And when to sleep at last i go
my dreams they seem to fill,
With happy scenes of long ago
by comeraghs rugged hills.
